Leaf spring diffuser

Outline

The leaf spring diffuser is a piece of non-clogging and hard-to-fail air diffusion equipment that has been used by many customers since the 1980s and is best suited for the aeration and agitation of the adjustment tank and sludge storage tank for wastewater treatment equipment. Since it is to be installed in a place where maintenance or replacement is difficult, it is highly recommended that you consider the use of our highly reliable leaf spring diffuser, which has been proven through long years of field use.

Features

No clogging

Due to the large discharge port, there is no concern about clogging, unlike the membrane-type or porous-type diffuser. It requires no flexing procedure, such as blow-down and blow-up, for the prevention of clogging. Therefore, it is suited for intermittent operation.

Hard to fail and does not degrading

It consists only of the main body, made of ABS resin that is excellent in terms of the rigidity, shock resistance, oil and grease resistance, heat resistance, and chemical resistance, as well as the leaf spring, made of SUS301. Since there is no membrane, rubber or any other material prone to degradation or swelling used, it can be used consistently over a long period of time. There are actual examples of use spanning a period of 20 years without maintenance having been required.

No orifice required for air flow rate adjustment

Since the discharge port aperture is determined by the balance between the supply air pressure and the elastic force of the leaf spring, it is compatible with a wide range of air flow rates. Owing to that characteristic, no strict air flow rate adjustment or management is required.

No check valve required

Since, once the aeration air flow is interrupted, the leaf spring itself closes the discharge port due to the effects of elastic force and water pressure, no wastewater or any other matter will flow backward to the main body and piping system of the diffuser.

Solids and slime are less likely to adhere to it

An air screen is formed around the main body as a result of the resonance of leaf spring, caused by supply air, and due to the air bubbles occurring from beneath the leaf spring diffuser. The screen prevents solids and slime from adhering to it and fibrous materials from twining.

Working principle

Supply air pressure pushes the leaf spring open.
When air passes under the resonance cavity, it causes large amplitude levels and high frequencies as a result of the resonance with the leaf spring, shredding the air flow while it is being discharged.
Once the air supply is interrupted, the discharge port closes as a result of the action of the elastic force of the leaf spring and the water pressure.

Influent quality

BOD: approx. 130 mg/L
COD: 100-120 mg/L

Tank dimensions

Length: 18 m
Width: 7.5 m
Depth: 5.0 m

Installation depth

4.0m

Oxygen dissolution efficiency *1*2

Pressure loss characteristics *1

  1. The values are the results of in-house tests conducted under some particular conditions and will vary depending on the water temperature, water quality and installation conditions. They are not intended for any guarantee of performance.
  2. The oxygen dissolution efficiency was obtained by means of the calculation of the annual average of measurement data. No conversion conducted to clear water equivalence.

Being coarse air bubble-type air diffusion equipment, the leaf spring diffuser has a lower level of oxygen dissolution efficiency when compared with fine air bubble-type or super-fine air bubble-type air diffusion equipment. It is, however, excellent in terms of durability, has less of a likeliness of clogging, and provides great in-tank agitation performance.
