METAWATER Co., Ltd. (President: Kenji Yamaguchi, Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) and Kubota Construction Co., Ltd. (President: Mutsuo Uchida, Headquarters: Naniwa-ku, Osaka) have completed The Project for Sewerage System Development in Phnom Penh (hereafter 'the Project'), and held an inauguration ceremony on 27 December 2023. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Hun Manet of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Ambassador Atsushi Ueno, Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, Naoki Ihara, Managing Executive Officer, General Manager of the Overseas Business Division, Kubota Construction, Ken Akikawa, Executive Officer of METAWATER and other relevant persons, as well as approximately 3,000 people living nearby the facility.
This project is a Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) grant aid project to construct the first public sewage treatment facility in Phnom Penh. In the capital city of Phnom Penh, where the volume of sewage is increasing due to rapid urbanization and population growth, this project will contribute to improving the water and sanitation environment and the living environment of residents by constructing a sewage treatment facility and burying sewage pipes in the area around Cheung Aek Lake, where water quality is particularly deteriorated. The facility is capacity to treat approximately 5,000m3/day, and has adopted Pre-treated Trickling Filter system, which was developed by METAWATER for developing countries and has already been introduced in Hoi An, Vietnam.
METAWATER Group will continue to actively propose our proprietary technologies and systems, such as Pre-treated Trickling Filter system, to developing countries, such as Southeast Asian countries, which are facing the challenge of a deteriorating water environment along with their economic development, and contribute to solving their problems.
