Completion of Japanese Bridge Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant in Hoi An City, Vietnam

METAWATER Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Yasushi Nakamura; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter "METAWATER") is pleased to announce that wastewater treatment plant of The Project for Water Quality Improvement for Japanese Bridge Area in Hoi An City (hereinafter "Project"), a Japanese ODA grant aid project implemented by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), have been completed, and that a completion ceremony hosted by Hoi An City has been held. The order for the facilities was received by a joint venture formed by METAWATER and Tsukishima Kikai Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Kazuhiko Yamada; Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter "Tsukishima Kikai"). Approximately forty persons attended the ceremony, including parties concerned from The Ministry of Construction of Vietnam, Quảng Nam Province, and Hoi An City of Vietnam, as well as Mr. Daisuke Okabe, Minister of Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, Mr. Shu Kitamura, Deputy Executive Manager of JICA Vietnam Office, Mr. Yasuhiro Morioka, General Manager of Sewage Works Department, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), and other parties concerned of the joint venture.

The Project adopts an advanced energy-saving sewage treatment system called the Pre-treated Trickling Filter (PTF) System (hereinafter "PTF System") developed by METAWATER for developing countries. Sewage of Hoi An City, a World Heritage Site registered as Hoi An Ancient Town, is treated using the PTF System's features, which include energy conservation, easy operation and maintenance, stable treated water quality, and low life cycle cost (LCC), METAWATER will contribute to the development of the local economy by enhancing water quality in the Japanese Bridge (Lai Viễn Kiều) area, improving the living and sanitation environment of the city, and securing tourist attractions.

Project Outline

1. Project name

3. Contractor

  • Construction of wastewater treatment facilities (quantity of treated sewage: 2,000 m3/day)
  • Guidance on operation, maintenance, and management of facilities for six months
  • Waterway repair construction

Pre-treated Trickling Filter System

The sewage treatment system, Pre-treated Trickling Filter (PTF) System, adopted for this Project is a technology METAWATER developed for developing countries and which received the "Technology Verification for Global Application" issued by Japan Sewage Works Agency. *1

*1 While the name of the system that received the "Technology Verification for Global Application" issued by Japan Sewage Works Agency is the Advanced Energy-saving Wastewater Treatment System, it is synonymous with the re-treated Trickling Filter (PTF) System adopted for this Project.
