Kawai Water Purification Plant Redevelopment Project, Yokohama Waterworks Bureau

Japan's first "PFI" project for the entire treatment facilities and the nation's largest membrane filtration plant

Water Next Yokohama Co., Ltd., a special purpose company whose largest shareholder is METAWATER Co., Ltd., has concluded a business contract for "Kawai Water Purification Plant Redevelopment Project" with Yokohama Waterworks Bureau on February 27, 2009, and the project was commenced on April 1 of the same year. The project is the nation's first private finance initiative (PFI) project that the entire water treatment facilities are updated and managed under an infrastructure organization system capitalizing on private fund.
METAWATER takes charge of manufacture, mechanical/electrical work, and maintenance and control of the membrane filtration facility. The Kawai Water Purification Plant will be the largest-scale membrane filtration plant in Japan.

4. Period Plant construction: April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2015
Operation and maintenance: April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2034 (20 years)
5. System Build Transfer Operate (BTO) System
Water Next Yokohama Co., Ltd. will raise fund and construct the facilities. After that, proprietary rights of the facilities will be transferred to the Yokohama Waterworks Bureau, and then Water Next Yokohama Co., Ltd. will operate and maintain the facilities.
6. Plant Capacity 171,070m3/Day
