METAWATER acquires JWRC’s Certification of Ultraviolet Disinfection Unit for industry’s first 1,200 m3/day model of UV treatment equipment using UV-LED

METAWATER Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Yasushi Nakamura; hereinafter referred to as “METAWATER”) is pleased to announce that, following its 300 m3/day water treatment capacity model of ultraviolet treatment equipment for water treatment facilities using ultraviolet light emitting diodes (UV-LED) as a light source, the industry’s first 1,200m3/day water treatment capacity model acquired the “Certification of UV irradiation equipment” from the Japan Water Research Center (JWRC).
The Certification of UV irradiation equipment is a technical certification offered by JWRC for UV irradiation equipment for water treatment facilities aimed at improving performance, quality, and other features and facilitating the supply of UV irradiation equipment meeting certain conditions to water business operators and the smooth and appropriate introduction of UV treatment technology to water treatment facilities. The certification has earned the confidence of water business operators as proof of equipment having high water treatment capacity and economic performance.
In order to facilitate the use of UV treatment equipment using UV-LED, METAWATER has signed a basic business agreement for OEM supply of UV treatment equipment using UV-LED with Risui-Kagaku Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka-shi, Osaka; President: Hajime Kawasaki; hereinafter referred to as “Risui-Kagaku”). Risui-Kagaku is a comprehensive water treatment manufacturer with extensive records in the delivery of water treatment equipment. Risui-Kagaku has also obtained the Certification of Ultraviolet Disinfection Unit for the 300 m3/day water treatment capacity model.
With enhanced product lines of 1,200 m3/day and 300 m3/day water treatment capacity models, METAWATER will respond to various customer needs and strive to reduce costs of UV reactor and LED modules (improving LED optical power, achieving longer life). In so doing, METAWATER aims to accelerate the development of next-generation UV treatment equipment that corresponds to large water treatment facilities, which are equivalent to a population of 100,000 people served, by embodying the energy-saving and long-life characteristics of LEDs.

Characteristics of METAWATER’s UV treatment equipment using UV-LED

1) Long life
Long life of approximately 45,000 hours* (approximately five years), roughly three times longer than mercury vapor lamps. Lowers the need to replace the light source and reduces waste. *As of October 2017
2) Suited for intermittent operation
Reaches predetermined UV irradiation level instantly by turning on equipment while allowing equipment to be repeatedly switched on and off, flexibly responding to intermittent and alternate operation according to operation of water treatment facilities
3) Space-saving
Minimizes installation area due to lack of need for maintenance space to replace lamps
4) Easy maintenance
Uses ultrasonic cleaning system for irradiation surface and inside chamber; ensures easy maintenance with no physical cleaning mechanism
