Ground-breaking ceremony held for wastewater treatment plants that the joint venture group of METAWATER won an order for in Hoi An, Vietnam
METAWATER Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Yasushi Nakamura; hereinafter referred to as “METAWATER”) is pleased to announce that the city of Hoi An held a ground-breaking ceremony for wastewater treatment plants. METAWATER and a joint venture group consisting of Tsukishima Kikai Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Kazuhiko Yamada) had acquired a contract for these facilities in “The Project for Water Quality Improvement for Japanese Bridge Area in Hoi An City,” which is a Japanese ODA grant aid project implemented by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The ceremony was attended by about 80 people including dignitaries and officials from Quang Nam Province and Hoi An, Vietnam as well as Mr. Yasuhiro Morioka, Director-General of the Sewerage and Wastewater Management Department of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) in Japan; Mr. Yasuo Fujita, Chief Representative of the JICA Vietnam Office, and members of the joint venture.
This project has adopted the latest wastewater treatment system called a Pre-treated Trickling Filter (PTF) System, which METAWATER developed for emerging countries. This system is characterized by its low electricity consumption, easy operation and maintenance, stable treated water quality, and low life cycle cost (LCC). Making use of this technology, METAWATER will help promote the development of the local economy by treating wastewater in Hoi An, which is designated as a World Heritage Site “Hoi An Ancient Town.” This will enhance water quality in the beautiful area of the Japanese Bridge, and thereby improve the living environment and sanitation in the city as well as preserving the tourism resources of the city.
The PTF System, which was adopted by this project, is technology that METAWATER developed with emerging countries in mind and for it METAWATER received the “Technology Verification for Global Application,” issued by the Japan Sewage Works Agency.*1
