Participation of Two Companies in Hybrid Chemical (HBC), a Chemical Company Invested by METAWATER Group
Four companies engaging in maintenance/after-sale service of drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities collaborate in chemical business

We are pleased to announce that, effective today, two new companies—ISHIGAKI MAINTENANCE CO., LTD (“ISHIGAKI MAINTENANCE”) and SUIKI TECHNOS CO., LTD. (“SUIKI TECHNOS”)—have invested in Hybrid Chemical Co., Ltd. (“HBC”), a chemical company established through joint investment between METAWATER SERVICE Co., Ltd. (“METAWATER SERVICE”), a METAWATER Group company, and Tsukishima Technology Maintenance Service Co., Ltd. (“Tsukishima Technology Maintenance Service”).

In Japan, drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities are aging quickly and there is an increasing need to reconstruct and upgrade these facilities. However, a large number of drinking water/wastewater business operators are facing various issues, ranging from financial difficulty to a shortage of trained engineers. As a measure to address these issues, the use of a public private partnership (PPP)—a form of cooperation that makes active use of technologies, knowhow, workforce, funds, and other assets of private companies—is attracting increasing attention. Amid a growing trend of outsourcing operational management of drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities to private companies as part of a PPP, the selection of optimal chemicals in the water treatment process is becoming necessary to facilitate operational management.

In order to contribute to resolving the issue, METAWATER SERVICE and Tsukishima Technology Maintenance Service, both of which have been entrusted with operational management of drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities, jointly established a new chemical company, HBC, on April 1, 2014 and have been engaging in the chemical business. The participation of ISHIGAKI MAINTENANCE and SUIKI TECHNOS will increase HBC’s net sales from about JPY 2 billion to JPY 3 billion and thus is expected to increase profitability through economies of scale. In addition, the expansion of chemical product lines with a focus on differentiated products of the four companies will enable HBC to propose more suitable chemical solutions.
Starting from this fiscal year, an e-commerce system using “Water Business Cloud (WBC),” a cloud-based platform, will be introduced to reduce costs through simplification of the process of taking and making orders and increase convenience through real-time progress management.

By making ongoing efforts to expand the company, HBC will contribute to the development of PPP in the drinking water and wastewater treatment business by enhancing profitability through economies of scale and capability to provide optimal chemical solutions through expansion of product lines.
