METAWATER participates in a ceremony to mark the completion of Osawa Water Treatment Plant No. 2 in Yokote City, Akita - the largest scale ceramic membrane filtration plant in the Tohoku region
- Contributing to the supply of safe and tasty water with ceramic membranes -
METAWATER Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; President: Tomoyasu Kida; hereinafter referred as "METAWATER") is pleased to announce the completion of the construction of Osawa Water Treatment Plant No. 2 (Yokote City, Akita, Japan) which will start supplying water in April 2014. METAWATER was selected as a business operator in October 2011 for the construction of the plant and had been facilitating the construction through a joint venture with HANDA KOUMUTEN and YOKOTE DENKI KOGYO since April 2012.
In commemoration of the completion of the plant, the Yokote Municipal Government hosted the completion ceremony for Osawa Water Treatment Plant No. 2 today. Mr. Kida, METAWATER President, participated in the event and expressed his gratitude.
Osawa Water Treatment Plant No. 2
■Background leading to the commencement of construction
The Kamiuchimachi Water Treatment Plant, which was then the main water treatment plant for Yokote City, was aging quickly after 52 years of operation starting in 1961. The plant was facing increasing difficulties in water treatment as the Yokote River (surface water), the main water source for the plant, was experiencing a range of issues such as the detection of Cryptosporidium and a rise in the density of iron and other chemical compounds as well as manganese. Against this backdrop, a decision was made to construct Osawa Water Treatment Plant No. 2 to address these issues. Equipped with cutting-edge facilities using a ceramic membrane filtration system, Osawa Water Treatment Plant No. 2 will ensure a stable supply of safe and secure water for the people of Yokote.
■The largest scale ceramic membrane filtration plant in the Tohoku region
Osawa Water Treatment Plant No. 2 has adopted METAWATER's ceramic membrane filtration system. Key features of METAWATER's ceramic membranes include small pores that completely remove parasites and bacteria, a stable treatment capacity that can respond to rapid changes in turbidity levels, high chemical resistance, and resistance to chemical deterioration and thermal/pressure altercation. The ceramic membrane filtration system will enable the plant to stably supply safe and secure water by eliminating pathogenic protozoa including Cryptosporidium, manganese, and odor using activated carbon powders. In addition, the system will enable long-term stable operation at the Yokote River where the turbidity changes quickly due to the melting of snow or heavy rain.
With a planned water treatment capacity of 11,800 cubic meters per day, Osawa Water Treatment Plant No. 2 will be the largest scale ceramic membrane filtration plant in the Tohoku region.
